King Street College is a large, private English language school in London. We teach general English to adults. The courses lead to Cambridge University examinations: KET, PET, FCE, CAE and CPE. We also prepare students for the IELTS exam which is the normal requirement for British university entrance. It is also possible to study business English (English for the working environment) and to have private lessons. We have two centres, over 1,000 students from over 40 countries and 35 qualified, experienced EFL teachers. King Street College started in 1986. Since then we have expanded and grown because our students recommend us to their friends and family. King Street College is popular because we teach English as a foreign language enthusiastically and effectively, our prices are affordable even for students who want to come to London for long courses and we have a relaxed, friendly, but professional atmosphere. We also have years of experience helping students from all parts of the world with their visa and entry requirements, employment possibilities and accommodation in London.

We use a very practical method of EFL teaching: if we believe a technique works we use it. We use standard, up-to-date course books, grammar exercises, tapes and videos. We use dictations, pronunciation drills and memory games. We focus on communication skills: speaking and listening. A lot of time is spent improving students’ use of vocabulary, idioms and phrasal verbs. We find that although many students have learnt grammar at school, they have obtrusive accents, cannot understand natural English speech and haven\\\\\\\'t got enough vocabulary to express themselves easily. It is therefore our priority to help students communicate in English as quickly as possible before we require them to learn more grammar rules.

Other:
Students who want a ‘full English experience’ are recommended to stay in the private home accommodation which is the most popular choice among our students. This means that you will live in an English home, giving you the ideal opportunity to practise your English in an authentic environment and experience the British way of life at first hand. The home may not always be a family with parents and children. Sometimes it will be a single individual or a landlady who rents rooms to students. Whatever the case, we have checked the suitability of all our Host Families. Students speaking the same language will not be placed with the same family unless they specifically ask to be. All KSC Host Families are carefully selected for their friendliness, the quality of the accommodation and the location. The Accommodation Officer knows all the families personally, and keeps in close contact with them during the student\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s stay. Each family is given guidelines on housing foreign students to make them aware of cultural differences and help them deal with typical problems that might arise. Most of our families already have years of experience housing students, and in many cases students have become friends who keep coming back year after year! Accommodation arranged by KSC is in accordance with the British Council guidelines for the housing of English language students. This means that the rooms accepted in our Accommodation Register must be equipped with a study desk with adequate light, hanging and drawer space for your things and enough space to move around the room freely. Your host will make sure that the room is clean and tidy, and that there is adequate heating when necessary. Please remember that as a ‘guest’ in the house you are always expected to respect any specific house rules. We offer further flexibility by grading Private Homes into Standard and Budget ratings depending on their location and quality. We also have a small self-catering student hostel in the Shepherds Bush school. The rooms are single, double or triple. Rooms have single sex occupancy, but the hostel has both male and female students. The hostel has: -2 fully-equipped kitchens both separate and en suite bathrooms -a live-in supervisor -T.V. and study areas in all rooms -bedlinen and towels provided by the college -a convenient location: it is situated in the Shepherds Bush school
