Canada’s capital is a city of contrasts, where French and English blend harmoniously, diplomats and dignitaries rub elbows with students and scientists and soaring Parliament buildings give way to fields and farms. Some of the country’s best museums attract visitors from across Canada and around the world, as does the famous Winterlude Festival and skating and boating on the beautiful Rideau Canal. To live in Ottawa is to experience one of North America’s fastest growing and most successful cities. Staying in Ottawa is like being in two provinces at once, since French-speaking Quebec is only ten minutes away. The country’s largest museum, the Museum of Civilization is one of the great architectural works of North America and is definitely worth several visits. Students love Ottawa’s outdoor Byward market, a fantastic place to stroll around and shop. Ottawa also has a good selection of restaurants and offers many great dining experiences.
