International House Sydney

International House World Organisation is a network of over 110 schools around the world, based in over 30 countries, all committed to the highest standards in education and training. Our goal as a non-profit organisation is to raise language education standards world-wide. All of our schools are independently owned and managed, but all adhere to the same codes of practice and follow rigorous inspections to ensure they offer the same high quality education and customer service around the world. Because we believe that language learning takes place not only in classrooms, but also outside the classroom in the culture of the learners, we think creating a strong social ambience is of great importance. International House schools are centres of learning both inside and outside the classroom. We have a unique reputation in the world for training language teachers. International House was a pioneering force in the development of practical training courses for teachers. Our teacher training courses are renowned for producing the most able, creative and professional language teachers. Many successful English language teaching books have been written by IH teachers past and present. All the teachers are experienced and highly qualified with the RSA CELTA as a minimum. Between the staff, we have worked in over 15 different countries around the world, in Europe, Asia and South America. In class we speak English. Outside class, if you have a problem, we can also speak German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, French and Tagalog. All teachers attend weekly enrichment sessions and meetings to keep up to date with the latest teaching developments. International House Sydney is located on Darley Road in the heart of Manly, only 5 minutes walk to the beach, the Manly Wharf or all the shops and cafes of the Corso. Manly is a holiday destination located on a peninsula between Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean. The Sydney CBD (Central Business District) is 25 minutes by bus, 30 minutes by ferry or 15 minutes by high-speed jetcat.

With a warm year-round climate and set around one of the world's most sensational harbours, Sydney is a vibrant city where you can enjoy beautiful beaches and relaxing gardens just minutes from the Central Business District. The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge are icons instantly recognised around the world. International House Sydney is situated in the idyllic surroundings of Manly, Sydney's favourite beach resort, just 15 minutes from the Central Business District by public transport. Nowhere else is quite like Manly. The college is surrounded by Sydney Harbour, the Pacific Ocean and Sydney Harbour National Park. Manly offers a variety of wide ocean beaches on one side and calm harbour beaches in a picturesque setting on the other just one block from the school. A wide range of water sports are available all year round including surfing, sea kayaking, wind surfing, parasailing, sailing, snorkelling and scuba diving. Land lovers can also enjoy beach volleyball, tennis, gym, ten pin bowling, indoor rock climbing, lawn bowls, and swimming centres, all in the local area. Manly also offers sensational restaurants and cafes, cinema, museums, galleries, pubs and clubs. You don't want to leave!

We teach using a variety of methods and interesting materials that make our classes interactive, so students improve quickly. We tailor our lessons based on the needs of our students. Teachers regularly meet with students to discuss their needs and objectives, and plan their lessons accordingly.

Most students prefer to stay in homestay accommodation. Live as a member of an Australia family, and gain real-life practice at learning and using English. We are sure you will love Australian food! Sydney is a vibrant city, offering many great attractions. We organise an exciting social programme with many opportunities for students to mix and make friends from all over the world. The activities are inexpensive, varied and plentiful and include beach volleyball, harbour cruises, dolphin cruises, bushwalks, soccer, golf, surfing lessons and much more. In fact we offer a range of activities each day after lessons finish, and a full day excursion every weekend. For example, you can take surfing lessons on Manly Beach, one of the most famous surfing beaches in the world. At Featherdale Wildlife Park you can wander among kangaroos, wombats and koalas.
