At least six levels of class are always in operation at Scanbrit ranging upwards from Beginner to Advanced. Should a student feel uncomfortable in his or her allocated class, they are encouraged to discuss their needs with the Director of Studies, who will arrange a class move upward or downward if thought advisable and beneficial to the student\'s progress. Our maximum class size is 14 students. The average class size throughout the year is 10.

HOST FAMILY ACCOMMODATION. Our location is in an area where we do not have to compete with several other schools for host families. Consequently, we can be very selective about our family accommodation and all our families not only provide very comfortable rooms but are also friendly and communicative with our students. Additionally, your selected host family will be within walking distance (2km) of Scanbrit School. Scanbrit School attaches great importance to the Students\' welfare and happiness. The time the student spends with the host family can be just as important as the time spent at school. By joining in with the family activities, our students will continue to learn and practise their English and continue the work they are doing in the classroom. Our School Welfare Officer knows all our host families and regularly visits them. Most of our selected families have looked after overseas students for several years and they treat students as members of the family. When making their enrolments, students should inform the School of any special requirements they may have and we will do our best to satisfy such requests (for example, some students may prefer a family of non-smokers or they might require a special diet or they may not like pets). Students can choose between part board and full board accommodation. For students taking part board, lunches are also provided by the family on Saturdays and Sundays. During the week days, snack lunches may be purchased at a reasonable cost from the School canteen. Unlike many other English Language Schools, our host families are situated within walking distances of the School. As far as possible, we place only one student of the same language group in any one family. There are seldom more than two or three students in the same host family.

Activities

Regular activities:  Scanbrit School encourages its students to participate in sports and cultural activities as a way to both develop their English and enjoy their stay in Bournemouth. Some activities (eg video films, lectures, basketball, volleyball, football, beach barbecues) are included in the course price. Other activities (eg excursions, horse riding) are charged at a reasonable price (eg Oxford escorted day tour costs UKP20 including museum entry fee). The School regularly organises video film evenings, lectures and sports (football, volleyball and basketball). At the weekend, excursions are arranged to places of interest such as London, Oxford, Bath and Salisbury/Stonehenge. Three or four times a year, we organise long weekends in Paris for a reasonable price of UKP99. In the summer, Scanbrit takes advantage of its beachside location and we hold beach barbecues and volleyball games. Other popular activities include golf lessons, salsa classes and cricket matches. We also arrange social events in conjunction with other schools in Bournemouth including sports competitions and charity dances. As well as the School social programme, students have plenty of sporting opportunities in the vicinity of the School including golf, squash, tennis, horse riding, sailing and windsurfing. The School Office will help to reserve these for you. We can also provide tickets for all excursions and transportation arranged by the National Express and Excel Coach companies - both offer local pick-up and drop-off locations and their prices are very reasonable.
Possible activities:  At the weekends, Scanbrit regularly arranges excursions and tours to places of interest in the South of England. All of these tours are conducted and accompanied by a teacher or an experienced guide, who will explain relevant points of interest concerning English history, culture and tradition. The South of England is enriched with many places of natural and historical interest. The excursions are reasonably priced and places visited include London, Oxford, Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Windsor, Winchester, the New Forest and the Dorset Villages. Full details of all the planned excursions are included in the wallet given to all students on their arrival at Scanbrit.
