Schools can be judged on the basis of a variety of criteria. While course curriculum and school resources are important, the most important component is the school staff. The teachers and administrators who interact on both academic and personal levels with the individual students contribute immensely towards the overall effectiveness of the learning environment.
The staff at FCLI regard teaching as their genuine vocation and regularly share their personal interests with their students. Their aim is to promote an environment of language acquisition that is both meaningful and relevant to their students. With a student body comprised of students from around the world, FCLI presents a global curriculum content. Rather than imposing language content on students, we realize that every student has unique reasons for learning the English language. Accordingly, we give students the English language tools necessary to their individual needs, whether personal or professional.
The teachers at FCLI are native English language users as well as being fluent in a number of other languages, including Czech, Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese. Teachers and administrators are responsible for the everyday running of the school, allowing them the freedom to make judgements about school activities and curriculum content. Personable and professional, the staff works together effectively to provide an optimum learning environment for the students. Beyond the school, the staff at FCLI is involved in the local community, participating in sports such as soccer and volleyball as well as cultural activities such as Salsa dance and local charities. As an example, one of the teachers is a Yoga enthusiast, another teacher is a soccer player and coach, while another teacher leads worship and teaches Sunday school.
As one of the teachers, I appreciate the freedom FCLI provides me to create real world lessons that leave a lasting impression on my students. Genuine language acquisition goes beyond vocabulary and grammar and requires students not only to react to language but to produce language, both spoken and written. Our students are encouraged to produce and surround themselves with the English language. English is not just a subject to study, it is a tool to use!
