St Giles BrightonBrighton, Great Britain The Language School
The St Giles Group of colleges is one of the largest and most successful language training organisations based in the UK. Every year an average of 9000 students from over 90 different countries choose St Giles for their language learning needs.
Our aim is to provide students with top quality service at an afforable price.
Our schools are in attractive locations and provide first class facilities, which are constantly being reviewed and updated. We want our students to see us not only as a place to study but also a place to meet people from all over the world, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The Location
Originally a tourist town on the South Coast of England, Brighton has grown and prospered and is now a stylish and cosmopolitan city, home to artists, writers, musicians, actors and celebrities. Surrounded by the beautiful Sussex Downs, Brighton offers the delights of city life with quick and easy access to the countryside.
St Giles Brighton is housed in three large, regency-style buildings conveniently located in the centre of Brighton, next to the famous Royal Pavilion. From the school there is easy access to public transport, shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Many new cultural and sporting facilities are currently being developed near to the college in Brighton.
The Course Offerings
At St Giles, we understand that different students have different needs. The St Giles \"learner-centred\" approach to teaching English enables our teachers to meet your individual needs. Courses cover practice in all four skill areas: reading, writing, speaking and listening; however, you will find the focus of our General English programmes is on speaking and listening - generally the main requirements of today\'s modern English speaker.
A typical General English programme includes:
- Developing and improving your spoken English, to make you a clearer and more confident speaker
- Developing your listening and comprehension skills
- Learning and reviewing the basic grammatical structures of the English language
- Everyday English - language that you can use in real-life situations, both spoken and written
- Reading practice, and comprehension testing
For all General English courses you will use a text book, which forms the basis of your study, but which is supplemented by a variety of authentic materials.
Accommodation
Our Accommodation Officer at Brighton will be pleased to arrange your accommodation for you. We offer homestay as well as various guest houses and hotels.
We recommend homestay if:
- You want to practise your English and learn about the British way of life
- You want to be in a homely environment
- You are looking for an economical accommodation option
All our homestays are carefully selected and monitored, to ensure you will be comfortable and happy. We do not place students with the same mother tongue in the same homestay. We can arrange single or twin rooms, with breakfast only, or breakfast and dinner. All bed linen and towels are provided by your host family.
We also offer a wide range of guest houses and hotels to suit your budget, which are recommended if you are looking for a more independent accommodation option.
Activities
Using your English in a social context is one of the best ways to practise and develop the language skills you have acquired in class. For this reason, we arrange a large selection of activities and excursions for our students, giving you the opportunity to enjoy your English social life with staff and fellow students.
