Dublin, Ireland\'s capital is a vibrant and youthful place. It was voted Europe\'s City of Culture in 1991 and has recently enjoyed an economic boom which has pushed its population to 1.3 million (49% under 25 years of age). The city, which covers a land area of 44.4 sq. miles, recently celebrated its 1000th birthday. It has produced many famous writers and musicians - names as diverse as James Joyce and U2! There are some fine examples of Georgian architecture as well as beautiful spacious parks, such as The Phoenix Park - the largest city park in Western Europe - and St. Stephen\'s Green. Dublin is also known for its nightlife, with wall-to-wall restaurants, pubs and clubs throughout the city centre\'s Temple Bar area. As it is a relatively small and safe city, the best way to explore its network of trendy thoroughfares and cobblestone streets is on foot. What\'s more, outside Dublin you will find some of Ireland\'s most beautiful beaches, mountains and lakes.
